Alex Ashworth

Alex Ashworth is a concert and opera singer, working around Europe and the United Kingdom.
Alex studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Mark Wildman and Julius Drake.
He has sung for Glyndebourne Festival Opera (Curio, Giulio Cesare), Scottish Opera on Tour, (title rôle Eugene Onegin), Welsh National Opera (Wozzeck, title role). Abroad, Alex has worked for Icelandic Opera (Silvio, I Pagliacci), Opera de Lille (Curio, Giulio Cesare) and the Opéra Comique in Paris (Otakar, Der Freischütz).
In concert, Alex has sung in some of the world's great concert halls. At the Royal Albert Hall in London he has performed Monteverdi'sVespers at the BBC Proms, Bach's B Minor Mass and St Matthew Passion, and Handel's Giulio Cesare. In Birmingham's Symphony Hall,Messiah, Mahler's Eighth Symphony, and Vaughan-Williams' Fantasia on Christmas Carols, which he has also performed in Det Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Alex has also performed Monteverdi's Vespers in the Carnegie Hall, New York, Barcelona's Palau de la Música, St Paul's Cathedral, London, King's College Cambridge and the chapel of Palais de Versailles. Orff's Carmina Burana has taken him from the Cadogan Hall in London to the Faroe Islands and on to Iceland.
Alex performed in the Icelandic premiere of Handel's Israel in Egypt and has sung the title rôle in Falstaff in Lapland, in a recreation, in ice, of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. Alex has worked with conductors including Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Roger Norrington, Trevor Pinnock, Paul McCreesh. His recordings include Œdipus Rex (Stravinsky) with Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the London Symphony Orchestra, Bach's B minor mass, also for Sir John Eliot Gardiner.
He has recorded Monteverdi's Vespers with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the rôle of Roque in Granados' Maria del Carmen for Wexford Festival Opera and appears as Curio on the DVD of Glyndebourne's acclaimed production of Giulio Cesare.
Alex began teaching singing whilst still a student at the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2000. Since then he has taught singers from around the world, giving many thousands of hours of lessons. Singers Alex teaches now appear on opera stages and concert platforms around the world.
Alex has taught at the Reykjavik International Academy of Voice, the Academia Internacional de Música Antigua in Burgos. Alex is Professor of Singing at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
